Meet Dr. Sara: Licensed Psychologist & Wellness Advocate in New York

Welcome to my blog! I’m Dr. Sara, a licensed psychologist in New York, and I’m thrilled you’re here. This space is where I share candid thoughts, professional insights, and passions that go beyond my day-to-day work.
If you’ve ever felt that social media posts are too short to dive deep into meaningful topics—but don’t have the time to read a full article or book—this blog is for you. Think of it as a balance: thoughtful, bite-sized reflections on mental health, wellness, and everything in between.

Who Am I?

Most people know me as Dr. Sara. I started my private practice last year, finally taking the leap after years of planning (and, let’s be honest, a few nerves). Before that, I worked as a school psychologist in both public and private schools and taught as an adjunct professor in CUNY’s School Psychology graduate programs.

While my professional background is rooted in education and mental health, this blog is about mixing it up. You’ll find topics that reflect my diverse interests, from nervous system health to holistic wellness. Occasionally, I’ll write about children, teens, and mental health (because you can’t escape your niche!), but this is also my space to explore broader ideas.

My Passions: The Nervous System & Holistic Mental Health

I’m fascinated by the nervous system! I dedicate a lot of time to studying how our bodies respond to the world and practicing strategies I often recommend to my clients. Breathwork, for example, is a cornerstone of my approach to wellness.

This curiosity also led me to pursue trauma-informed Reiki energy healing, and I recently completed my Level 2 training. Reiki has been a powerful addition to my understanding of holistic mental health—stay tuned for a future post about this transformative practice.

Another area I’m passionate about is integrative mental health, often called mental health nutrition or holistic psychology. I believe in preventing mental health disorders by making small but impactful changes to our daily routines, like improving how we move, eat, and sleep.

My Wellness Favorites

Here’s a snapshot of the routines that keep me grounded:
Movement: Yoga in all its forms—hot yoga, restorative, vinyasa flow—you name it. Hiking comes in a close second.
Nutrition: Whole foods with plenty of leafy greens (and yes, the occasional sustainably farmed animal protein). Also, dark chocolate. Lots of it!
Sleep: Early to bed, in a cool room, with many pillows. I aim for 7–7.5 hours of restful sleep, tracked by my trusty sleep tracker ring.
Connection: My husband and I prioritize at least five minutes of connection every day, no matter how chaotic life gets. It’s our way of staying grounded together.
